The first step in the installation process is to remove your old “stinger”. Loosen the 2 bolts that hold it in place and remove it. Then slide the TrailerSaver GN coupler in its place and tighten the bolts securely.
Operation
The GN4 & GN8 use the Fulton GN24 coupler which has the ability to remotely release
from the ball. To achieve this you should attach a cable to the release handle
and run it to a point near your jack handle for the trailer. If you hold pressure on the
cable as the trailer is jacked up, it will release without having to get into the truck. To hook up, simply center
up the ball under your coupler and let it down. It will automatically latch. In your information packet,
you should have a copy of Fulton’s owners information. Check this for more information on the coupler itself.
Once hooked up and the jacks are raised, you need to inflate the airbags in the hitch. If you have the
Schrader valve, simply inflate until the coupler starts to separate. As it comes up approximately 1”, you will
see a yellow line on the side of the aluminum skirt. This is the starting point for adjustments to your ride. A ¼ inch plus or minus from this line will make a difference. If your tongue weight varies from time to time,
so will your air pressure.
Maintenance
There are 3 places to grease the coupler hitch.
- On the Fulton coupler, there is a grease zert that lubricates the retaining shaft.
- If you remove the plastic plug on the front of the unit, there is a grease zert that lubricates the stabilizer
pin.
- At the rear, is a grease zert that lubricates the central shaft. The first two will need a little grease, but the central shaft will need more as we are filling a grease void. These should be greased every 3 months.
GN8 Option
Optionally, you can purchase the pneumatic control, part #P100-30 if you plan on using the truck air system
for monitoring the pressure of the airbags. This kit consists of a coil of ¼" tubing, control with gauge, ¼"
push-on TEE and a bulkhead fitting.
To install, locate an air supply from the truck, cut the line and install the ¼" TEE between the cut ends. Install one end of the ¼" tubing into the TEE and the other end onto the control fitting marked "From truck air
supply". On the other fitting marked "To air Bellows", attach the tubing. Now route it back to the rear of the
truck. Find a spot where you want your bulkhead fitting mounted and drill a hole for it. Mount it in place.
On the rear of the bulkhead fitting is a Push-To-Connect fitting. Push your air line in here. The other end of
the fitting is ¼” NPT. At this point, you will need to thread in a hose or coupler to attach to the GN.
